About Us

Standing prominently on Angel Hill, to the north of Sutton town centre, we are a church in the Catholic tradition of the Church of England. We rejoice in the beauty of our worship and the warmth of our fellowship. You are very welcome to join us.

A Parish of The Society

We are affiliated to The Society of St Wilfrid and St Hilda, which promotes and maintains catholic teaching within the Church of England. We are delighted to receive episcopal ministry from the Bishop of Fulham. We also play a full part in the life of the Sutton Deanery of the Diocese of Southwark

A welcoming and friendly church

We place a strong emphasis on welcoming everyone, whatever their background, family situation or age. We work closely with our parish school, the nearby residential homes for the elderly, and local food banks and homeless charities.

Fr Chris Phillips SSC

Fr Chris grew up in Cambridgeshire and Essex, and then studied Modern Languages at Durham University. After a time working as a housing adviser and supporting homeless young people, he moved to Oxford to study theology and be formed for the priesthood. He was ordained for the Diocese of Bradford and served as an assistant curate in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. In 2016 he became the Vicar of St Mary’s, Willesden, in the Diocese of London. He answered the call to move to Sutton to take up his current ministry in September 2024.

Fr. Chris is a member of the Society of the Holy Cross. His interests include the writings of the early Church Fathers and the Oxford Movement. He is married to Hannah, and they have three children.

Marjorie Whitehouse

Marjorie is our licensed Reader and conducts valuable ministry in the parish. As well as preaching on Sundays from time to time, she leads a weekly Reflection Group on Monday afternoons and contributes to the pastoral care of the sick and housebound. She assists Fr. Chris in the parish’s funeral ministry, confirmation preparation, and visits to residential homes in the parish. She also leads on the PCC’s charitable giving committee.
